Hypnosis – Thumb Stare Induction

HypnosisSalad asked:

Jamie Smart from Salad Ltd demonstrates with the power of language how you can disassociate from “that” thumb and hand control of it over to your unconscious mind.

This hypnotic induction was modelled from Norman Vaughton and the clip was taken from Salad’s Practitioner Training, course details for 2008 can be seen at

wow this is amazing, I totally drifted down, and my hand just kept going down, I knew I didn’t want it to go down, but it just kept goind, and at one point, my cell phone started ringing, and that woke me from that state, and when I answered the phone my friend said I sounded like I’ve just woken up!

  3. yeah scary ****. Worked on me :P

  5. SamDept says:

When the subject is in this type of trance could you give them suggestions like, when you wake up, the number three will no longer exist?

  6. maybe the thmb going down, and the movements is just gravity.

    Very informative thanks

Yea, rapport is a major factor in hypnosis. Rate of breath is matched, and then used to bring the subject down deeper in many instances. Also, the practioner will look for any subtle cues from you (twitching muscles etc) to see what stage you are at, and then arrange their induction to match that change.

  9. Joltrast says:

It’s also a use of ambiguous language. We prefer to use unconscious instead of subconscious because then we can say something that sounds like “you’re unconscious”
    :)

I was hypnotized by an audio hypnosis course once. It was freaky and a little embarrassing.

  11. Glotsen says:

Two different things. Un-concious mind actually involves a certain lack of conciousness, unlike subconcious.

  12. chrismallyon says:

noticed you mentioned handing over to your, ‘un-concious’mind in there. sure you dont mean, ‘sub-concious’?

  13. WhitePaws says:

There is something called autohypnosis. But it would be highly improbable for you to be hypnotized with one of these videos on youtube, since the voice is a very important factor and every person reacts differnt.

Fantastic demonstration – I wish the clip had been long enough to hear AJ’s comments. Jamie – you are the best!

  15. jsilks22 says:

i have a question..if i were to put on headphones and listen to your directions as you give it to this kid, would i be put into a trance?

  16. mpa1971 says:

    Very nice demonstration!

  19. Joltrast says:

If a relative really wanted to experience trance it would not matter. Anyone who can follow instructions be it relative, friend or stranger can enjoy hypnosis.

  20. Joltrast says:

Jamie does it again! I love your style! When are you going to release them on video?

  21. stevenrshaw says:

Way cool, Jamie. How do you do that?
